In Loving Memory Of

James Eric Englehart

December 9th, 1963 - July 15th, 2026

Obituary

James Eric Englehart, died July 15, 2026, in a boating accident near Battery Point lighthouse. Born in Covina, California, he lived most of his life in Crescent City, CA. Eric had a variety of work experiences including being a union iron worker, aspiring professional fisherman, and most recently a State Agricultural Inspector which he was both proud of and thoroughly enjoyed. He was always incredibly intelligent and quick witted. Most of us can recall his sense of humor which often caught you by surprise. And although he was a bit quiet, Eric cared deeply for people and had a strong circle of friends. Eric viewed all women as beautiful and couldn’t resist the occasional flirtatious remark.
Most of all, Eric loved the outdoors and fishing. The rivers and Ocean of Del Norte County were his beloved stomping ground. He could out fish many of the accomplished anglers in our family. He always knew where the fish were and what it would take to coax them into his net. He was a true fish Whisperer, a talent he learned from his father. We can all take solace in the fact that he passed doing what he loved, in the place he loved, thinking of those who loved him so dearly. He also believed in God and now rests in his peaceful embrace.
He was proceeded in death by his father, James Englehart. Surviving are his mother, Shirley Englehart of Crescent City, California and his brother, Mark Englehart and his half-brother, John Englehart, his aunt Evelyn Briggs of Brookings, Oregon and his aunt Laura Marems of Las Vegas, Nevada. His surviving cousins are Jack Clay, Carlene Barajas, and Lannette Dexter and a large extended family.
A private family service will be held on the Smith River.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Smith River Alliance, River Guardians.

Tribute Wall

I visualize my loved nephew Eric, joyfully dashing through the woods with “Little Boy”, wild and free.
I see him on the river bank, I see him casting out into the deep blue sea, I see him laughing heartily, I see him patient and quiet, I see him with my own eyes, I see him through his Mother’s eyes, I see him through his Brother’s eyes, he will always be remembered and loved.
Laura Marems
