Richard Edwin Thompson

Obituary

Joined the Navy on January 9th of 1951 Assigned to the USS Quail- mine sweeper
& USS Swift - wooden hulled mine sweeper. Spent four years sweeping mines out of the waters of North Korea.

He served with the Navy Seal team in Vietnam as an Engineer after being injured from a rocket to his boat and losing most of his hearing. He was reassigned to the Navy's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning School. He then was assigned to a submarine repair ship, USS Nerious as well as other ships during this time and finally while assigned to the USS Prairie, he retired from the Navy in1977 as a Chief Petty Officer.

After retiring from the Navy in 1977 he became a Mason and went on to become a 32% Mason, Scotish Rite, and a few years after he became a Shriner, and was initiated into the Shriners in Las Vegas Nevada around 1980.
